My first day of snowboarding this year
A week ago, I purchased a season pass to Copper Mountain/Winter Park for $200 using the Wells Fargo discount. My friends and I decided to head up to Copper last Saturday. We all were planning to go up soon and Thanksgiving weekend seems to be the perfect time for everyone.
With seven of my buddies going including me, we had to take two cars. I volunteered to take my little Acura TL and one of my friend had a Subaru WRX (4-wheel drive of course). He had a ski rack while I had to stuff everything in my trunk and partially the backseat.
We all agreed to meet up at 7am the day of to drive up. Since most of us live in Denver, I had to drive down from Boulder (roughly a 30-40 min drive). I struggled to get any rest that night. With only 1.5 hours of sleep, I woke up at 6:15am and drove down to Denver. We geared and packed up to head out to Copper mountain.
I was dead tired and had to drive another 2 hours to get up to Copper. The roads were clear and the McDonalds’ coffee saved me from falling asleep on the road. It was such a relief to finally reach the parking lot of Copper mountain.
We got up there around 9am. The weather was nice (around 30 degrees farenheit). Getting off the ski lift chair was a little bit rough for some of my beginner friends. We all managed to get to the top.
The snow was great for intermediate to advanced boarders but a little rough for the new people. The snow was hard and not powder. There wasn’t much of it since it’s just the beginning of the season. I fell probably 3 times throughout the whole trip (due to my effort to jump and dodge crazy skiers).
Overall, the first day of snowboarding this year was a good experience. I’m sure there’s many more to come as I plan to make use of my season pass. Driving home from the trip was exhausting. The next day, my thighs were super sore and I had a huge migraine from the lack of sleep. I think it was a good trade off since I had a good day of snowboarding.
